a different sort of day

So catching up on all of the things I did in the last months of my time in Europe seems to be taking much longer then I anticipated. I hope you stick along for the ride because some of my favourite places are still to come. But for now here is more on Munich.

Our last day in Munich started off differently then the rest. The three of us woke up relatively early for a tour of the Dachau concentration camp. Located in the middle of a town, it is hard to believe that a concentration camp was placed there, and remains there as a visitation sight. We spent a majority of the day learning about the happenings of this specific camp, why it was built, and how its story ended. The day feels like a blur now. There was so much to absorb, and all of it was hard to both imagine and grasp. Despite being a depressing tour all three of us felt as if it was necessary to go on while in Munich. And I am so glad we did.
But then the day turned around. It got a lot happier with the help of some wonderful new friends and a few litres of beer. The Bavarian lifestyle knows how to cheer someone up.
We actually met Brett, Christian and Ben on the tour at Dachau and spent the afternoon/night trying out different beer gardens, running through fountains, and eating one of the most delicious meals ever.

munich 2.0

After three days in London, Mel and I met up with Sarah, the final person in our Euro-travelling trio. I often like to refer to her as the twin attached to my hip when we reside together in Kingston. This isn't as creepy as it sounds. Point is, we were all finally together and ready to start the trip we had been planning for what felt like ever (it was more like a year, but that's a long time right?). So it was off to...

Munich!
I was so incredibly excited to go back to this city. My girls from Scotland were jealous that I was soon going to be holding a litre mug and a massive pretzel in my hand, so I obviously had to drink and eat even more for their sake. We spent the entire first day and night moving from one beer garden to the next. Exactly what you should be doing in Munich. We became immediate friends with some lovely Bavarian men at Hofbrauhaus who took us around for the evening. There could not have been a better way to start off our Euro trip.

Did I mention that they were in lederhosen? Because they were. It was super cool. Also how is it possible that in that last photo it was near 9pm? Take me back to litre mugs and bright evenings.

things got a bit crazy

After our time in Brussels Claire and I ventured up to Amsterdam for a few days. We definitely had an interesting time. Here are a few things we did that I can talk about on the blog: heineken experience, mikes bike tour amsterdam version, visited a windmill and a cheese/clog factory, met up with an old housemate (and one of my favourite girls), the anne frank house, a flower market, and once again got to hang out with Mel and Hayley. Truly an amazing city and by far the strangest one I have been to. Although I think it may have some of the best stories attached to it. Here are a few pictures that attempt at capturing our time there.
This was the end of our week long adventure. It was one of the most memorable weeks of my life, and I can't wait to do more travelling with Claire (hopefully this happens sooner rather then later). xo
